Inauguration of the Small Apostles of Christ in Garo Hills Region

Small Apostle of Christ (SAC) Inaugural Function at St. Stephen Convent, Matchakolgre

The province-level inauguration of the Small Apostles of Christ (SAC) was held with great enthusiasm and spiritual fervour at Matchakolgre on 11 April 2026. The occasion was graced by Most Rev. Andrew R. Marak, Bishop of Tura, as the Chief Guest. Among the distinguished dignitaries present were Sr. Maya Pohshna, Provincial Superior, Sr. Viji John, Vice Provincial and Fr. Anthony Thekanatt, Parish Priest of Araimile. The event was further enriched by the presence of superiors from various communities, animators and around 75 SAC members, making it both meaningful and significant. In his address, Bishop Andrew reflected on his early experiences of preaching and teaching, highlighting the importance
of nurturing in young minds a deep love for Jesus and His Word. He stressed the value of living a life rooted in service and compassion, encouraging the members to become committed witnesses of Christ. Sr. Maya Pohshna presented a comprehensive overview of the vision and mission of the Small Apostles of Christ, offering a detailed explanation of the movement. Fr. Anthony Thekanatt guided the SAC members as they took their oath with devotion and sincerity. The programme began with a warm welcome by Sr. Shiji James, Superior of St. Stephen’s Convent. This was followed by a brief prayer moment led by Sr. Florence Riame and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, while the
Master of Ceremonies, Sr. Beanchi Marak guided the proceedings. The children from Matchakolgre Boarding added vibrancy to the celebration through meaningful songs, dances and a Bible skit. The entire programme was thoughtfully organized, beautifully reflecting the true spirit and purpose of the occasion.

Social Apostolate is to make Healing Ministry and Social Action creative and effective. The role of Social Apostolate in the Mission of Evangelization is that, we are evangelizing persons, who are subject to social and economic condition. One cannot evangelize today, unless one sees it from Social perspective, in the touching realities of people’s lives. This is what we call social dimension of evangelization

EDUCATION
Our call to be educators has its basis in our vocation to be missionaries. Through the apostolate of education, we inculcate Gospel values in our students, so as to promote their integral development. Our schools are educative communities wherein, through our friendly relationships with the staff, the students and the parents, we radiate the Gospel spirit of truth, love, kindness, unity and justice.
FORMATION

Formation is an ongoing process, which is centered on the person being formed. The primary objective of the formation process is to prepare people for the total consecration of themselves to God in the following of Christ, at the service of the Church’s Mission. Formation aims at the transformation of the whole person.
The formation particularly of junior sisters and the candidates is being taken care of. Besides, annual retreats, other renewal programmes are organized.

YOUTH CARE

At present, we have rehabilitation centres meant for the differently-abled. The extra love and care the children receive help them bloom beautifully despite their physical disabilities. The children are also trained with vocational skills to help them stand on their own. We have the Vision Unit, Orthopedic and Workshop and Community based rehabilitation. The sisters approach the disabled in their outreach programme, conducting camps and door to door survey. Sisters are specialized for this work.
